Importance of Skills Training in Today's Education Ecosystem
Today’s major concern is that formal education does not provide suitable skills to make candidates employable. There is a huge requirement for skilled manpower. When we compare percentage of formally skilled work force globally, India scores the least at 2% against Korea (96%), Japan (80%), Germany (75%), UK (68%) and China (40%). India has tremendous potential to improve skill-based learning to not only cater to domestic work force requirements but also to serve as an effective manpower hub globally.

Engineering is one of the fastest growing and most exciting fields today, offering new college graduates significant earning potential, job stability, and plenty of personal satisfaction. There are many different jobs available for engineers. Not everyone can be an engineer, however, as the demands in terms of skills and knowledge are intense. There are several different branches of engineering, each with very distinct technical skill sets. Even within a given field, specific job requirements vary significantly between positions.

NITI Aayog
National Institution for Transforming India, Government of India states that Skill development has emerged as a key strategy to realize the potential of demographic advantage of having the youngest workforce with an average age of 29 years in comparison with the advanced economies to create human resource for improving country’s competitiveness and growth. The National Skill Development Mission launched by the Government of India envisions skilling at scale with speed and standards with focus on strengthening Institutional Training, Infrastructure, Convergence, Training of Trainers, Overseas Employment, Sustainable Livelihoods and Leveraging Public Infrastructure. The National Policy for Skill development and Entrepreneurship 2015 provides an enabling framework to realize the vision. The National Policy targets to skill and reskill about 400 million by 2022. It’s a huge challenge considering that the percentage of the formally trained in India are low at 4.69 per cent of the total workforce compared to countries like Germany with 75%, Korea with 96%.
GRIET SDC
GRIET Skill Development Cell has been entrusted the responsibility to train students by providing them various courses, with objective for enhancing their Employment/ Self-Employment opportunities.

GRIET have an MOU with CISCO through which it offers career ready courses including CCNA, BDA, Cyber security, IoT and also various programming languages C,C++, Python, LINUX OS etc. The courses offerred are both instructor led as well as selfpaced courses.
